Thanked: 0Wester near wedge
Hi gents,
I purchased this little beastie the other day and haven't really had much of a look at it til now. Blade seems good; little bit of toe wear and a slight flattening on one side of the spine, in the middle, indicating a very slight frown. I can't see the frown but I know it's there, setting it against a straight edge rule will prove it.
Looks like a lazy hour working through the hones and it'll be good enough for me.
One thing I wanted to check with the more experienced of those amongst the forum; the grain-looking lines on the scales have me puzzled. Is that a sign of deterioration or is it just the way they're made? I have a couple of older razors like it.

Thanked: 3228Those lines in the scales are an attempt to make them look like ivory.

Thanked: 0So I gave it a quick hone and used it last night. Suffice to say that it is, if not my best, then definitely in the top two or three used razors that I've acquired. The only thing that seems to be a problem for me is the square point - it's insanely sharp and as most of my razors are round point it will take some getting used to. Lovely 2 1/2 inch scratch down my cheek, near my left ear this morning. Apart from that, it's a little beauty!

Thanked: 4828Ah yes the spike point. I muted mine. A couple of light strokes down the edge of my 8K, take the point away without making it rounded and easily hones back to a spike if need be.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!
