Picked up this Gillette set today and gave her a quick polish. By the serial number she was made in 1911.

    Nice set, Bob.
    Was it a local find?

Thanks. No not really local, bored so took a short drive across the border to Grand Marais MN and found it there.

Is The Angry Trout still there? They had some of the best fish I've ever eaten.

I was going to wait but your post pushed me over the edge. Just did a 3 pass shave with the wonderful lather courtesy of Palmolive soap and a synthetic brush. Excellent result which is not going to leave the morning watch much to do tomorrow.

Had read that she was designed for blades that were thicker than the modern ones and so could be an aggressive razor with modern blades. There is no doubt you are shaving just like with an extra full hollow SR, pretty noisy. I think it is pretty fussy on the angle it will shave at too. So probably on the aggressive side of things but nothing a light touch, good angle and great lather can't handle.

Couldn't have been too bad a shave as the deodorant ammonium alum I used after did not send me screaming around the room. Neither did a double dose of Aqua Velva Ice Blue after that. The only down side for me is that the handle is thin and hard on my achy hands to hold.

Just a real sweet DE for being over 100 years old. Yea, they did know how to make them back then to shave and last.

Good to know! It has an aggressive look! I tend to like bigger, thicker stuff to hold onto as my grip seems to lessen........ I suppose the grab bars in the bathroom are next.....SIGH!
