    Default What is this??

Picked this up on the bay with another razor. In the listing I thought it was a corn razor. Now I am thinking it is a salesman sample. Blade is 1 1/4", overall closed is 3 1/2". Box is only 4 1/2" long. Marked on shank W. j. Gilmore, Drug Co., Made in Germany. Holding it is a salesman sample! Too cute to let it go.
    Thanks for your help.Name: 1440873989397935290435.jpg

I would think this is a corn razor. The shape of the tang doesn't allow the tail to pass through the scales like a normal straight but would allow you to hold the blade fairly rigid with thumb pressure.
Great find, I'd certainly hone it up and see how it shaves.

That is what I thought at first. But it is much smaller in size. Actual cutting edge is 1 1/4 inch and very thin.

I have seen some on the bay with the same style tail on them.............I don't remember how long they were or if they even said it.

That's a "corn razor". Made for cutting corns off your feet and toes. Was never meant for shaving.

They are usually well made and have excellent steel in them.

Oh my lord Thunderin' Cod in the Bay....I'd heard of the "corn razor" and seen them many times, and as God as my witness I just assumed it had something to do with removing the sheath/leaves from the cob and/or the corn cob itself from the stalk...

Unless you're having me on here.....

Given I know nothing about types of steel, corn razors etc.

Could these razors take an edge worthy of shaving with? I'm just wondering

Not shinin' ya on a bit. It's a FACK, JACK! LMAO

I suppose you could shave with one of the wee tiny things if you were of a mind to. I've ended up with a traded several off over the years. They were usually thrown in with a lot of stuff that I bought. I had no sue for 'em so I sent to a buddy in KY that likes them.

OH, just to muddy the water, there were corn knives and maize knives that were not used on your feet but were used on corn plants. LOL

It's a straight razor for a vertically challenged, male Homo Sapien,,
