    Default Torrey Mayfair

Another holiday find. It was slim pickings for SRs. Nice little Torrey Mayfair that needs a bit of a clean up and polish. Already tightened the pins. Looks like the scales have shrunk a bit and the wedge could do with a trimming. Can't wait to get her honed up and in service. I can see by the shape of the tang and blade how Torrey might have been influenced by the Swedish razors they imported.

Thanks. Took a drive out to Regina Saskatchewan to visit the boss's relatives for a long weekend and stopped in Winnipeg Manitoba to see mine on the way back home. Gone 8 days for the 2600 km/1600 mile round trip.

Lovely Torrey. I note that it has the clear translucent scales, obviously original, that another Torrey recently posted had. In that thread the OP thought they might be replacements but Tom said they are original. This is one more piece of evidence that Torrey did use the material back in the day.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Got her cleaned up and honed. Stropped her and did a 3 pass shave to see if she was good to go for tomorrows SOTD. Believe it took a nice edge, felt good and even the alum said it was OK. Seems like there is decent steel in those Torreys. Like the look of the scales too as a bonus.

    Nice find, Bob.

It is always great to dig one up from the past. You cannot go wrong with a Torrey.

Nice find! What do you know about the vintage of this razor? I'm curious because the markings are identical to a particular one I have, and unlike all my other Torreys. It's "The Torrey Razor Co", not JR Torrey, and there's no arrow or whip logo. I have a very early Torrey with no logo, but yours and mine with the matching markings are obviously newer than the 1880s. Is this a later variation? A different incarnation of the company?

Not really - thanks though. I think you and I have some unusual razors. My best guess is that this was a later incarnation of the company before its eventual failure in the 1950s. But that's just a guess.

No problem, I have almost given up on trying figure out when a SR was made and just settle for enjoying them.
