    Smile My Starter Setup

Built one of those field expedient light-boxes and took a couple pictures of my newbie stuff...

The pictures look great. I too started with Proraso products. They are a good starting point. I do not use a DE so I have no idea what you have there. I think a lot of guys starting DE shaving buy sample packs of blades to find their sweet spot. Nice job on the light box. Happy shaving!

What DE blades are you thinking of using? I recommend you try a sampler set; just make sure they include some Feathers and Astras!

I bought Merkur blades when I first got the set, used a couple of them and started looking into sample packs. I posted on here about it and got many comments on the feathers and thought I would just get a bunch of those online. Just so happens I had to take the wife out of town and lucked upon a shop that carries a few different types of blades. Long story short I currently have 7 feathers left and like them better than previous. I think that will be the extent of my testing blades until I learn what the heck I am doing. At that point maybe the Astras and 7 o'clock will get a shot.

I never got under my jawline close with the Merkur blades, the feathers I got closer the first time. The next time I guess I stretched my skin better but got bumps which I figured was maybe too close. That seems to be my only trouble spot but I do have a goatee so no lips or chin to confuse me.

I like taking pictures so I had been dying to try this, I am a Jack of many hobbies master of none

My goal is a straight and paddle strop for Xmas....

My fav DE blade after testing a bunch turned out to be Personna Blue. I like the Personna Red too but lean toward the Blues.
