Scored a Nice Little Felt Pad
I got this Felt Pad for very little & it is in great shape! It has a small mark, I don't know if it is rust minor spit or what but I put a little crox on a Q-tip & got most of it off. I thought it was all gone but when I walked back into my living room with it under low light, it is still barely there. At first I used the red .50 crox, then the green .1 crox & I got most of it out. Maybe I need to do it more. Another American great straight out of St. Louis, MO.
It doesn't appear to have even touched a hone & I even looked at it through my loupe. On the opposite side of the tang, it has the patent date, Pat. April 25, '05.Last edited by engine46; 10-23-2015 at 05:55 PM.

Nice pick up! Interesting name for a razor, I have never seen one of those before.

There are some old advertisements online. The St. Louis address in the advertisements was the mailing address for several companies. Today the building is a Hilton.

I actually have a heavy wedge straight from American Knife Co, Plymouth Hollow (1849-1875). I need to find it. I don't know if I ever showed it but it's awesome & one of the early versions! I need to restore it some but not completely. I still want it to look vintage, just some rust spots on it need to be gone!

There are felt pads lining the scales. The pads were saturated with "antiseptic Vaseline oil". The manufacturer believed that after shaving water and soap couldn't be removed from the edge entirely and the oiled pads would prevent rusting as well as sterilizing, I suppose.

Steve,
It appears to have two pins in the scales...between the pivot and the wedge...almost as strange as the name."Call me Ishmael"

Bill, those are little pins to hold the felt to the inside of the scales!
