Size: 25.7 KB I think this one will clean up pretty good. I don't know if i will replace the scales with horn or not but it one more to play with this winter. I've bid on one more that in pretty rough shape but i think that this winter i will have enough time to work on them.

That's what really caught my eye. Now after cleaning and polishing then comes the honing. I've honed razors with a lot of smile before but not quite that much. I'll see what 2 layers of tape looks like when I set the bevel and if it's too much I can always take one off.

How thick is that spine? You may wish to start with more tape or end up with a very wide bevel.

Don't know right now . When it get's here i'll measure it. you may be right. if the spine is not very thick I would need to start with more tape. the tape I use is Scotch 3M .0085 thick vinyl electric tape. 2 layers would add .017 per side. I'm told that 3M offers .007 and .0085 and .010 thicknes electric tape. I haven't found the .010 in my area yet. still looking.

Ugh, I don't know what's worse, more than two layers of tape or a wide bevel. To me it is a little like, what's worse, hitting your thumb with a hammer, or hitting your index finger with a hammer?
I guess the edge goes to more tape
    Wide bevels blow.

There doesn't look to be much hone wear so two layers of tape should be OK. It's more important to develop the rolling stroke with that kind of smile - otherwise you will still end up with the bevel wider in the central area regardless of how much tape you use. Replacing the scales and I'll bet that could turn out to be a stunner.

My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

Could you tell me why you are so opposed to using tape? I don't get it! You put on what it takes to get a good, clean bevel, you peel it off, no one ever knows!!

If I start out with 3 layers of tape and rolling x strokes and the bevel is to small I can always take a layer of tape off. it's hard to make a large bevel small though.
