I couldn't remember whether or not i posted this one so if i did well i'm old. Made a last minute bid and won this one. the photo was a little off so i thought i'd take a chance on it. well it came today and other that the scales a little dry the razor's not the bad. it's really a spike point and just a little surface rust. should clean up rather well. i have it soaking in neatsfoot oil now and will let it sit for a few days. Haven't measured it yet but believe it's a 7/8 at the widest. Wostenholm and son.

There's a lot about straights I don't know. When I bid and when I first got this razor I thought the scales were pressed horn. now I don't know. There light in weight. dry. the wedge is lead and when I got the razor the wedge was very loose. the blade was to. I put a liberal amount of neatsfoot oil on blade and scales. now the wedge is a lot tighter and blade is better also. back in the day just how many different materials did they use. this one has nice letters pressed into the scales. small letters. The celebrated and more. I know the scales are not wood and doesn't seem to be horn. is it possible it's pressed leather? And if so how should they be treated.

There was thread about pressed leather yesterday. Neil had a post about it that was linked to it and if I remember correctly he had said to just keep it oiled and not to soak, I'll see if I can. Find both and link them here.

This one turned out to be above my ability. I made the scales and sanded and polished but it will probably need a re-grind. there are pits but not near the edge. I guess I could hone it and shave with it but not quite what I like to do. l let it go to some one who wants that kind of project. anyway back on the horse.
