My great grandad's shaving supplies!
So here is my new collection of my great-grandad's shaving supplies!!
All of this was on display at my dad's house for years, and my dad simply handed me a bag one day while saying that I would appreciate it more. He asked me if I could make some space on my shelf for all of it, and I of course agreed.
There are 3 straights that are all in rough shape, a couple of safety razors, lots of boxes of blades, his mug and brush, some soap, his shaving mirror (not in the picture because it's on top) and a hone! You can't see the strops very well, but there are two of them hiding in the back
I decided to not attempt a restore job on the straights because I think they are pretty far gone and I want to keep them original. I can date all of the items pretty well because my great-grandad passed in the 60s. My dad said he stopped using the straights and switched to safety razors in the years before his death because his hands started to shake, but he just kept everything to pass down. Neither my grandad or dad ever used anything other than a safety razor, so the last person to use the straights was my grandad probably close to 75 years ago.
A neat piece of family history!

Thanked: 3795I would suggest that you hone up at least one of the razors on the barber hone. You might as well shave with one of them and none of them appear to be too far gone to be shaveable. They don't have to be pretty in order to shave well.
That is a very nice momento!

I was actually just toying with that very idea...the hone is in good shape and I can tune up a blade and shave with it at least occasionally. The edge on one of them doesn't have any pitting and should be a fairly easy fix.

I would love to have some of my great grandfather's or ever grandfather's shaving stuff, especially one of his straights. The aunts & uncles disposed of them years ago but I did end up with his old Norton Queer Creek hone, its the one his taught me the correct way to hone a pocket knife on, a very fond memory..........
