My first straight purchase
I finally bought my first straight razor in the wild. I bought it because I thought it was a beauty. I did no research and bought it spontaneously from a junk shop. I asked about razors and he pulled out four straights. Three beaters and this beauty. He was asking $85.00 and I talked him down to $45.00 for this razor. It needs to be honed but I think it is in good shape otherwise. I would appreciate any input from you guys. Is this a quality razor?

Thanked: 1184A Bresnick import and very good. You stole it. To avoid prosecution send it to me and I will hide it forever :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Very good for a first pick in the wild, buy a lottery ticket this week.
From the pictures the razor appears to be in excellent shape - this is a well know brand/maker.
I'd suggest either hooking up with a Mentor for a honing lesson or a visit to the classifieds here to find a Pro.

Thanked: 2284No, that's a terrible blade. You see how it doesn't have any bad hone wear, thats wrong. You see how it has the original box it came in, throw that away. You see how it has no rust, you might want to leave some water sitting on it. You see those ugly, ugly green translucent scales with perfect bolsters, hit those with a hammer and get some marks on them........
and just for the record, today is opposite day.Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

Dang almighty. Be sure to send it to a real straight-razor user for honing! Ideally someone here from the forums or classifieds. If you want to learn honing yourself, buy a real beater. Congratulations, you've got a real beauty there.
Keep your pivot dry!

The hell you say. Then I oppose opposite day to make sure that there is no opposition to observing opposite day since no opposite now exists. But the obverse side of opposite is positive and I will positively promote preferences preferring the act of opposite. What this all means is that I am on the edge of Damocles's sword trying to decide between yes and no on any given subject for the nex 24 hours.
And MrChick, I second the call for professional honing. That is a beauty to behold."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."
