Default My first antique hunting experience.

    Went to an antique market..
    Here's what I scored

A good condition vintage boker edelweiss. There were so many bokers I had to settle for this one..

Some sort of gillette safety razor with a black knob.. I know nothing of Dr's

    A beat up linen/leather strop..

The Boker I sanded a bit, cleaned the linen up and cleaned the de. I needed a real linen hanging strop and it looks a lot better now..

Nine hundred posts, and you JUST went antiquing your first time? How did you restrain your self?
Looks like you are now entering the early phase of SSAD.[Shaving Supply Acquisition Disorder] Congratulations on some great new-to-you gear!

I know I probably should have my first year I started wet shaving but I never had the urge too. Still don't I just thought what the heck... little present to myself.

The DE is a 51 or 52 black tip super speed. Very nice shaver. Clean it up and give it a try.

    Thank you Newell!!

I was wondering what type of razor it was. I spent an hour and a bit making it spotless. I shaved with it tonight instead of the usual straight razor. Got a damn fine shave I just don't know how to shave with a de so there were performance errors..

Glad you tried it! It's considered a medium aggressive razor and will usually get you a BBS shave in a couple of passes.
Kinda what got me started in wet shaving. Got it because 52 is my birth year. Look at the underside of the head and it will have a letter and a number, W is 51 and X is 52 and the number is the year quarter i.e. Jan, Feb and March are 1.
Also kind of interesting on those is on some the handle was steel and some were aluminum. There was a shortage of aluminum at the time because of the Korean War.

Now you went and did it....
Its all over for ya now..
Cut up your credit cards before its too late..!!
Oh no!!... It is too late.[emoji23]

I've got huge antique MALLS, down here. And have done very well to stay away as much as possible.
But I just found two more the other day while on a road trip at work.
Will have to take a look while on break for the holidays.
I've searched high and low for strops and stones to no avail.
Even checked all the barber shops that I've seen. So your find makes me a little envy. But every dog has his day.

    Good hunting..

Nice score! The plating still looks good on the Super Speed!

Nice Scott! How did it feel finding all that stuff? I have a hard time staying away from the antique stores because of that feeling I get, I love it. That Edelweiss is fantastic. I've come across 3 or 4 in my searches and have never seen one so clean. I'd say you did very well for your first run.
Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....
