    Default Ruskie Razor

A fellow I used to work with gave me this today at coffee. I gladly accepted the gift as I had no Russian razors. The fellow thinks it is from the late 1920s from the way it is stamped. I'll have to research that and if anyone knows please feel free to say what period it was from. Gave it a quick clean and will hone it tomorrow.

Nice piece Bob. Manah is originally from that area IIRC. Might drop him a PM if nobody steps up to the plate with information. Between reading the language, and being from the region, + dealing in many, many razors, if anyone knows he might.

I don't have any knowledge in stamps interpretation, but could assume that СПОРТ is a (SPORT), 49г is a (1949) and стиз, probably factory name.
Again, consider it as an assumption only.

Thanks for the help guys. I did set the bevel, I think, just now. Took a bit of work on the DMT 325 @ 30 degrees to get rid of some chips in the blade. Then a bunch more strokes on a Naniwa 1K with 2 layers of tape till it cut arm hairs and the more with 1 layer till it cuts arm hair again. I guess the steel is OK because it did not chip out during all that but I will know more tomorrow when I go up through the progression. Looks to have potential though.

    It's right.
The razor was made by СТИЗ factory - Завод СТальных ИЗделий (Factory of Steel Products) in 1949. Brand name - СПОРТ (Sport).
