Default Two new soaps to try

Hard to find any shave soaps in this town but today a small barbershop has some, miracles never cease. They had 65g EJ refill pucks for $4.00 CAD/$ 3.00 USD and VDH puck refills for $2.00 CAD/$1.50 USD. Pricing was the second miracle of the day. Normally the EJ puck refills are around $12.00 CAD/$9.00 USD and I have never seen VDH sold in Canada never mind stand along refill pucks. I took 2 of each to try naturally. I palm lathered both varieties and found they lather easily and appear to be very slick but shaving with them will tell the tale. I don't see why they would not do the job well though.

I started out on a severe budget and used the VdH exclusively for the first 3-6 months. I was never a big fan of the scent, but the price is tough to beat. I like the EJ lime & pom, pairs well with some new orange bath soap from Aus that I just picked up the other day.

I just had to try the VDH so did a 3 pass shave with a Merkur slant. To me the scent, what little there is, is a non offensive clean soapy scent. The lather while not the thickest is slick enough for a smooth comfortable shave with a DE. I think VDH is an honest shave soap and does not pretend to be anything other than a basic shave soap at a hard to beat price. I think it fits the bill better than Williams and not quite as well as Arko. Just a decent no nonsense product which I would not be afraid to use.

I have the EJ Sandalwood open and will try the lime & pom later. I had the idea that it may pair well with Clubman Citrus Musk aftershave.

Tried the VDH premium when I first switched from goo in a can. Works great, but I don't care for the scent.
So I took a whif of the luxury VDH, im about to open my third puck, and will always be part of my soap rotation.

Just out of curiosity, is there a colour difference between the standard VDH and the Deluxe? The refill pucks I got are a pinkish flesh colour. Wondering which of them that I have.

That's the deluxe. The luxury comes in a green box,and the soap is white.Name: uploadfromtaptalk1459550977489.jpg

Its hard to explain the scent, but I like it.
You can also buy the kit at Walmart, which includes a mug boar brush, acrylic stand, and a puck of soap, for under $30. I broke my stand, and reknotted the brush with a badger knot.

Thank you much, I always wondered how you could tell. I never see Vander Hagen stuff in Canadian stores and I rarely go to the US much anymore. If I get to the US again I'll keep a lookout for the white luxury version of the soap.

The fleshy color kinda weirded me out when I first bought it. "Did they just sell me skin in a cup?"

Yea, I can see that. My first thought was a mini cup of pudding.

I thought it reminded me of caress, a woman's moisturizing body bar
