I think you should go at it with some 0000 steel wool and WD-40 and then the steel wool with polish and then just polish. You will be amazed as to how fast it cleans up a blade.
Henckels is a really old company and I think the were the leader and not the follower ;-)

The back and spine need a bit more oomph. It is a good one though. I love solingens with a hint of smile.

They're are up there. My personal solingen #1 is tuckmar with dorko a close 2 probably ERN and then henckels after that. Boker or bohler round out the top 5.

This one arrived today and it's 11/16 which is good because i will hone out about 1/32 or less for a very small crack. It was not viable in the photos and i doubt if the seller noticed. I have honed all but a speck of it out with 400 naniwa and will switch to the 800 to set the bevel and then 1K to finish setting the bevel. after that i will go with the rest of the naniwas i have and finish on the 20K suehiro . i plan on shaving with it tonight. wish me luck.

Henckels usually don't throw nasty surprises so it should be easy going

Roger I don't think you need luck, you have skill which is so much more predictable. I think you've got this one!

I did get it honed and i used it and the wadsworth i got yesterday. The wadsworth shaved pretty good. The Henckel well it is a Henckel and that says it all. I have noticed lately that the smaller razors do better when i shave every day. Normally i go 2-3 days between shaves and the 6/8 and up shave great but when i shave every day the 4/8 and 5/8 do good. just the difference in weight.
