John & William Ragg Paragon Razor with engraved spine
This came from a set of five (and I think I have seen two others of similar kind floating around, so maybe it was a seven-day set initially). It's from John & William Ragg in the later 1800s. The blade has been reground, but very well. The spine has a floral etching. On all of these from the set, the scales are ivory but each very different, so I think this set was refreshed at some point a long time ago in new scales and the blades reworked slightly, maybe to get rid of hone wear or oxidation.

That is absolutely gorgeous!!!!! I just got a John & William Ragg Paragon the other day in a small lot of razors for cheap & although it is nice, it doesn't compare to this one. It is a heavy blade & dressed in Ivory.

I have a William Ragg, not much left of the mark, "The Napoleon Razor".....from the New W&B thread, you mentioned this maker as one of the finer craftsmen of the era, and to think, won this on eBay for under $10.00 on eBay.

Thanked: 118Wow, gorgeous razor! The floral etching along the spine looks like some of the Henckels razors. I also love that slight gunstock shape to the ivory scales.
