Maybe someone here will know more than I
I just bought a razor and was wondering if I could learn more from the far more experienced and knowledgeable people on this forum.

I will post more pics when this razor is in hand. The razor is marked warranted and is a wedge.

Welcome and nice find. The scales a real nice. It looks to be early 1800's. Really need to see the blade. Nothing like an old wedge for a great shave. Post more pictures when you receive it. Good luck.

Yeah the tail points to that.

Thanked: 4826That is a very nice looking set of pressed horn scales. I am really curious to see what the blade looks like.

Thanked: 4826Without the tang stamp to help the historians a guess is all you will get on age. 1820 to 1830 is what it looks like to me. It has a well developed heel. It is a nice find. Old ones like that are getting harder and harder to find. No surprise there. It is likely a nice score.

Thanks for the response! The heel method is finicky for me, as a Greaves pre sheaf works has a nice heel. I have read the tail length method is the better indicator. But only for Sheffields, french blades don't fit that mold. And then there is the fact that it appears to lack a makers mark, hopefully once I get it I can distinguish the maker. I am hoping that someone has this razor tucked away in their collection.

I would like to have it tucked away in my closet. From the blade design my guess would be 1800 to 1820's. Without a makers mark on the tang it will be impossible to know who made it. Every guess will be speculation.

Yea it's a long shot but it's all I have at this point. But it should arrive today so better pictures should appear soon (and then it will get placed neatly in a box to wait for me to finish some other razor restores and get the nerve to touch something so beautiful)
