Shaving Mug - Wilcox Silverplate Co
Hello All,
On a seperate listing on ebay, I scored this at the same time as my Richardson 7 Day set. I'm sure it will be a fine addition to the collection. 2nd shaving mug so far. I love the design, very Game of Thronesish..lol
Ebay said this
"This listing is for a heavy, ornate silverplate shaving mug made by Wilcox Silverplate Co. It weighs nearly 1lb. There is a great, embossed floral design on the side. Very good, vintage condition."
Thanks for looking. Critique away

Neat, what is the little oval shaped side pocket/compartment for?

I was wondering that myself. At first I thought that might be where you put your razor to store it. I haven't actually received it yet so I don't know if a razor would fit. (This is all speculation by the way)There is a possibility that the razor may tip out so maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to put a razor there. No clue

Does it seal to the bottom of the cup ? I would consider it a scuttle IMO. If sealed, it may be for holding water for soaking the brush, and water for making lather. Just my two cents. It may also be used to hold the brush out of the water/lather ,while in the holder.

Any idea of its age?

It's a scuttle, the hot water would go into the smaller basin which would be under the brush as in the holder, resting on the handle. The lather would be mixed in the larger portion.
Or something like that. It should go well into your straight razor shaving rotation, Cheetah!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
