Default 9/8 Joseph Rogers Dutch Rattler & 4/8 Fredrick Reynolds Sheffield Straight Razor

    Hello All,

This is the straight razor that made me want to start collecting straight razors back in 2012.
I don't remember exactly what I was looking up but once I saw Undream's 10/8 Dutch Rattler restoration I knew that I had to have one one day. Besides the overall craftsmanship of the resto, the shear size of the razor was such a draw for me. Now that I know how much restoring a blade costs I will have to make due with some elbow grease, knee grease, butt grease, Mother's polish and hope that someone here will leave me some Mammoth Ivory in their will as I wait to restore this

Not in the best condition but she's mine. Not the most rare straight razor to date but I am happy that I have one now (or at least that it's on it's way to me)!

Proud that I could debut it here amongst all of the other Dutch Rattlers on this forum. Now I can truly say that I am broke but without further adu.....I present

A little heavy wear in an isolated area on the toe, otherwise she is just fine. The scales are where you need the most work, a cracked pivot like that is a tough one to get past, although if you want to keep the original scales on her it is possible. You might just get away with a trip through the vibrating tumbler and keep her looking her age. If you want to get a crocus finish you will likely wind up with a really weak blade etch. It is really deep and crisp now but there is some pitting there too. I would hate to risk the wording, however you may find a happy medium.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Forget the Mammoth Ivory, keep the original scales!

Wow, nice score cheetah! I would hate to compromise the etch so I would just clean it up & try to fix the original scales or get some more vintage scales. Just my opinion.

You could always put some custom scales on her for everyday use and keep the originals. Those were common scales used by Rodgers on a lot of there razors. Keep your eye out for a nice set on ebay. I am currently on a Joseph Rodgers hunting spree. Very well made razors. Nice pick up.

That is quite a find, I am envious of you post up some pictures when you are finished restoring it so we can see the end result!

Man, Awesomeness and Huge, an attractive combination, Wish I could find one similar. I'll have to make mine, but will have a choice of steel.

Sure like your fat razor Cheetah.
