Thanked: 1Learning the Straight RAZOR technique
I only started shaving with a straight razor one month ago, WOW, what great learning experience.
Purchased a $17 German made blade in ebay, a few hones, strop, shaving cream.
Took me a month to get a 100% righteous BBS shave without slicing and dicing my face.
Once I could get a respectable hone, the rest just took patience.
I followed the Lynn Abrams video, master one surface area at a time technique, and I must say, it paid off.
I also watched Lynn hone a blade at least 20 times over, also paid off big time as the cut came from a dull blade,
not a 100% shave ready clean honed edge. My honing has a ways t go yet, but my beveled edges are clean and polished now. Only have a 1000 and a 10,000 stone, using a vintage barbers hone to get my 3,000 to 4,000 range
hone, working pretty darn well.
Cutting my fingers a little still transitioning my shaving angles and learning my face all over again. Positively
got my edge clean.
Wife tells me this is the cleanest shaven she has seen me in 20 years!!!
I noticed the razor also very effectively exfoliates the skin, which I NEVER knew was an added benefit of straight razor shaving!
I will be purchasing a better strop from straight razor designs ASAP as I have a cheap strop that is not 3" wide and
has inferior hardware.
Thanks Lynn for the excellent videos that set me on the right track!!!

Thanked: 1184Welcome to the fun :<0) Had a good friend lived down your way I used to send guys his way. He moved north but you may want to look around town. A visit to fellows of like mind can be even more fun and informative. Of course if your ever up my way I am always up to make new friends.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Welcome. I'm curious, how did you cut your fingers? Honing or shaving?
