Something to play with
The photo off the bay is kind of fuzzy but unless it's got a cracked blade or scales it will be ok to play with. The add said in good shape so if it's not i will send it back. It's a Crown & Sword and don't know the size but I'll clean and polish then hone. Shave with it then either keep or send it to a new home. I'm glad i don't keep them all. The wife would never quite shopping.

Thanked: 1184Looks a little toe heavy but other than that my e-Bay eye says you got a good one. Have fun.
Also taking a guess at the toe being closer to 6/8 than not :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I thought the toe was a little heavier also. I've seen several that way. as for shaving it might not be that bad. When i shave it's the first 1 to 1 1/2 inches used motley. Most of the old sheffields show wear on the toe from being honed more . At least it looks that way to me.

Have had and tried a few Crown & Sword razors over the past 7 years and have found all to be great shavers. Let us know how she does when she gets there.

Nice, I like the crown and sword logo which should be molded into the scales, it's fuzzy in the picture though. I have one that I have used on and off over the last three years and had good shaves.

It came today and i was completely surprised. The razor has never been honed. It had a little dirt no rust and the scales are perfect. I cleaned it some and it's ready for the hone . It came in the original coffin also. It is 5/8 or just a little over. close to 11/16. Since this is a hobby i don't know if i will turn this one around or not.

Well that all depends on the shave now doesn't it :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

You know your right but I do have a lot of razors that shave pretty good and like a lot of folks if i kept them all i would have one for each day but i want make up the mind until i shave with it. I have some that my wife will sell after I'm gone and some that I'll let go to feed the hobby.

I made a mistake. It is a 6/8. I sat down this morning and honed it. That's when i decided to put the rule to it and found out it is about 1/64 less than 6/8 and either it was close enough when they made it or i may not be completely right. I used a loop and looked at the edge and can't find enough evidence of a previous honing. anyway i'll find out how it shaves today.

Tried it out this morning and with the grain was ok but against the grain was not so back to the hones. Along the jaw line close to the chin just would not cut the beard so I took the 50 1/2 Henckel and finished the job. I went back to the 1K then the 3-5-8 and 12K naniwa then the 20 Suehiro again. I'll try it again tomorrow.
