    Default Rendered from the wilds

Once again, the oppressive heat has rendered some goodies from the poor folks who sit in it all day waiting for someone to buy their wares. My first find in the first 5 minutes of looking is the 7/8 Wm. Greaves and Sons, with box, near wedge with a partial Masonic(?) etch that I can only make out " ....ess I Will Do" so far. I was off to a very happy start. Then I found the Roberts Warranted stub tail, and I became deliriously happy, and somewhat light headed from the heat. It came along with the "Chinese" marked blade which sure looks W&Bish, but I dunno -- no other marks. Comments welcomed

Lesser finds were a Dudley's Dollar Razor made for Gray and Dudley in Germany, who then had it made for Keith Simmons Hdw. here in Nashville. I have a soft spot for Gray and Dudley razors. A Griffon Carbo-Magnetic, and a little 20th century W&B with logo etched blade. I had to leave a Greaves that had a heel chip of the large kind and a nice Reynolds, but he is bringing more tomorrow. Heh.

Then for kicks, I picked up some brushes and a nice Edison Black Diamond hone. It is marked with the real Edison script, and goes along nicely with the two Edison Phonographs I have. I am back home re-hydrating and forming a plan of attack for refurbishing all this.....project # 3027, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32.

Love the stub tail. The one with the 'writing' looks like a Sheffield for sure, but I'm not sure if that stuff under the large character is kanji. Looks sort of like Arabic to me, or maybe Sanskrit ? Interesting mark. I don't think I've ever seen it before.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Nice job! I love getting out there and finding stuff out in the real world. If you put in the leg work and keep looking it's a thrill to find a score like this!

A little 3000 paper and some Blue Magic brought out the etch on the Greaves. It says, "I guess I shall do". Will update with photo when I get it optimal.

It is quite similar the the W&B blade etch on the Acier Fondu site under W&B contract razors. Similar, but not exact.Name: chinkapin.jpg

Nice haul. I'm with Jimmy, I love the stub tail. I also don't know if that is a Chinese. The greaves is nice with the thumb notch.

It would be a pain to strop without it. The stub made my day for sure.

I have one like it but it is in the wrong scales but come to think of it, I might have some scales for it now. It's a shave ready razor.
