You must be kidding, MikeT! I haven't read all that!

The vertical lines with 3---3 and 4---4 denote the location of the cross-sections located in Fig. 3 and 4. Capitolized letters are denoting physical items and lower cased letters are probably referencing fabricated features of an item or unseen components (like the lube/antiseptic or the points inwhich they were applied).
