    Default Alfred J Krank Razor

Dug this one up locally today. Gave it a quick clean up and off to the hones later. Looks to extra hollow ground.

It was sold by Alfred J Krank, St. Paul, Min. and is possibly their North Star model judging by the stamping on the show side. On the other side it is stamped Made In Germany for Alfred J Krank which was commonly done. The interesting part is when you open the coffin up there is a sticker saying "Ground by Alfred J Krank". Did they import blanks from Germany and grind the blades in Minnie?

In any event I am pleased with it and hope it hones up well.

Interesting razor, it is highly possible that it was ground by Alfred Krank, i remember posting about a Chicago department store with its own grinding department, using unfinished razors from Germany. In any case Sir im sure it will turn out to be a fine shaver.

Link to the article about the department store doing its own grinding, that way they would avoid the excessive tariff.

Thanks for the info. I was able to find this Collecting Vintage Compacts: Compact Vignette - The Scissor Sharpener - Alfred J Krank . Seems he started his working career as a scissors grinder so he may well have ground the razors in Minnie. Interesting man and company. There was also a large glass jar with metal screw on lid, empty of course, that had Alfred J Krank Shaving Cream on the lid.

German razor, ground by an American, honed by a Canadian, should be a winner!
