Thanked: 17Flea market James Barlow & Sons 15/16
Picked this up for $30 after haggling. A little rust and probably replacement scales but a nice pre 1891 15/16 near wedge with barbers notch. I plan to remove rust and re-patina, probably rescale with horn and keep the scales for another restore. God only knows when I'll actually get to it. Picked up a griffin carbo-magnetic for $3 while there too, for what I don't know (rad).

great find and a good deal too. neat scales but i agree that horn would be more appropriate.

Thanked: 4826Nice scales, I would bet them to be cast plastic of sorts, and not really from the same era as the blade. It's a pretty nice blade and you will loose a little width on the restore, and it will look correct with the horn scales you mentioned. I envy peoples abilities to go to flea markets.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Awesome find, love that it came from a flea market. Haggling is half the fun! I've had a couple Barlows and the shave was terrific. Does it have ECHO on the tang? Enjoy

Thanked: 17Funny I also enjoy the haggling, when everyone is respectful. I think this vendor could see my vision in bringing this piece of history back to its glory and he appreciated that. It does have echo on the tang.

Yeah, there is an etiquette to haggling and it goes best when done respectfully. The vendors at the flea market that bother me are the ones who won't budge and say "Well, this goes for $$$ on ebay so..." And I'm thinking, we're not on ebay, we're at the flea market!
That Barlow is going to clean up nice!

Barlows are great razors and this one will clean up nicely. Horn scales is the way to go. Great price as well. Pls post some pics when you are finished with the restore.

Thanked: 17I buy cheap razors when I find them just to keep them from being thrown away or rusting away, figure even if I give them away at least they are kept "alive". Anyone else feel that way?
