Rubberset #3
This one arrived today, looks better than I thought, a few character marks but overall very nice.
Gave it a 10 min clean up with a scotchbrite pad followed by some 0000 steel wool, and a quick wash with some hot soapy water, not too shabby.
I have a couple others I am restoring, and will get back to this one later. For now Im going to leave it as it sits.

I have a Rubberset, for me its a great brush, I love the shape of the handle, and the fact it looks great is a bonus.
Congrats, and enjoy you great brush.

Fantastic, classic vintage brush...had the knot in mine replaced by SRP member MikeB52 who polished it up and set a gorgeous Shavemac D01 knot in it - it never leaves the brush rotation.
Planning to get another sometime and try the Shavemac D02 knot.
You going to keep that knot or swap it out eventually?

Yessir,
Phrank I saw that post a while back and have been lusting after one since.
For right now this one will sit as she is, I won't be using it. Just pulled the knots from two others today that will get quality badger knots. I have not decided on them yet tho. Was looking at TGN, and keep reading about Shavemac but not sure yet.
I hope Im reading their page wrong but if that +100.92 is in addition to the $46.75 for a 24mm knot I do believe it will be from the nib hahaa .....that, or I may need a few cocktails before ordering.
The boar knot mehhh, If I keep this one I am sure it will go in the bin. its stiff and prickly. For the classy package once restored I think they need a quality badger knot.Last edited by AKmik; 09-22-2016 at 01:03 AM.

Guilty, and thanks.
I bid on a bunch of others but they always go past what I am willing to spend. These will keep me busy for a while, and I will gift one when done so all is well. Definitely a cool project , and will be excellent brushes once finished.
Sooooo, you and TC say Shavemac... are they really 3x better than the best knot from TGN? or even better is there something very close in quality but just not so steep on the price? Its a one time deal so I may splurge on one. the giftee sure as #$@! is getting a TGN knott hahaa.
I may post up these up in the workshop as they progress, took some pics of the deknotting and quick clean, easy 20 mins to get them to little nudy handles.

I've tried a few TGN knots and they're you're basic knot - IMO seems like the type of knot you'd get with a starter brush at around $35.00.
If you have such an iconic piece as that Rubberset, I listened to Tc and went with the Shavemac D01 knot, and it has now become one of two brushes that never leave my shave den - the Rubberset with the Shavemac knot and the Morris and Forndran.
I actually was just looking at one of my custom brushes, beautiful wood and metal handle, stunning brush, but the knot? Meh...so found myself pondering if I could get the knot removed from the handle and....yup, pop a Shavemac knot in...only this time I'd like to try a Shavemac D02 knot.
Really, they're more expensive, but in the end, you'll end up with a brush that if it were from a branded maker, you're getting it essentially at a third of the price and the highest quality...my opinion only...but I defer to Tc on this one all the way....
