    Default The Gryphon from Portland!

Oh, what is this... a package from USPS...

What ... a straight razor from Portland Razor Co.

Warning... contents may cut or kill you... and your family!

    Hmmm what is hiding here

Holy mother of 8/8 - The Gryphon with a square point and walnut scales... quarter ground

First impression... hefty and solid. My largest straight is 6/8 so this is a bit of a jump. Finish on the razor and scales are great - no blemishes whatsoever.

Will do a shave debriefing tomorrow!

That's a fine looking razor. I hope it shaves as well as it shows!

Hope so too. I gave it a little stropping... a bit awkward at first because of size of razor but then got used to it

Agreed. Any razor sized larger than 6/8" proves more difficult for me to strop. Be sure to report back here on the merits of your first shave with this bad boy.

Will do... i typically shave with a 5/8 Spanish point Dovo (bergischer lowe) or a round TI 6/8 (Le legende) both extra hollow ground. My bristles are coarse and thick and i normally shave once or twice a week, so the razor has a lot of hair to mow on shave day. The dovo and TI do a good job, but I always wondered if a wedge-ish and beefier razor would be better for my beard... we'll see tomorrow!

Scott has done a fantastic job of building the Portland Razor Company of his dreams into reality. They are now producing superb razors and great strops and have maintained competitive prices. I believe they are also doing razor care classes for new straight shavers.

You made a great choice Tenurepro, enjoy your new razor.
