Got to love a detour.
My wife and I had a six hour drive today to visit family. Fortunately, we entered the drive in a map app and found out that the highway we use is closed due to flooding. We chose another route and set off. My wife pointed out an antiques shop and we pulled over. I found this 8/8 beauty in the front display case and negotiated a very fair price.
A little research tells me that this address was used from 1865-76
While I was making the deal on this razor, my wife was cruising the store. She is getting good at spotting shaving gear and took me over to this one. The razor was closed and the scales have some issues, so she thought it might be rough. We had them pull it out of the case and look what she found, a 13/16 Wade and Butcher. I was able to get this one for a great price as well.
I love it when my wife helps with the hunt. She is my good luck charm[emoji3]

Thanked: 169Those kings are from within walking distance of where I'm from in Manhattan. I occasionally find them in the wild-usually with smaller height and french points. Great example. That India steel probably has a good amount to give if you sit down and really work at cleaning it up a bit.

Thanked: 2284My opinion is you scored big time! Excellent, excellent finds. That King is in amazing condition. The patina is just right, hardly any rust, nice big collars that are un-cracked, horn scales with little chips or bites, last but not least, 8/8 in size. What's not to like? And where's the hone wear??? There is none!
Double stabilizers, I'm assuming it's pretty thinly ground??? That's another plus. Big, American steel..... It's gonna be a dreamy shave.
As for the W&B, Everyone knows they're quality razors. The shave from it will be superb!
Enjoy them!Last edited by HARRYWALLY; 02-18-2017 at 01:49 PM.
