Default Old wooden shaving soap bowl

Found this wooden bowl at the Salvation Army today. I don't know it's original purpose but with some clean up it will serve as a shaving soap bowl. Near as I can guess it was made from a lawn bowling ball or a cricket ball, possibly Jamaican as a Jamaican coin is set in an insert on the lid, and is lignum vitae. I thought it was pretty neat repurpose by whomever originally made it.

I would say that it's past life was not storing shave soap.

That's definitely Lignum Vitae Bob, great find. Water wont touch it.

It's easy to tell by the color and interlocked grain structure.

    Very cool!

Thinking on it more and doing more reading it is possible it was not repurposed but made as a souvenir of Jamaica. The Jamaican national flower is the flower of the Lignum Vitae tree that grows there. Either way it will make an interesting little bowl even with that odd smell it has.
