    Default Looking for info

I'm looking for information on my razor. My grandfather gave it to me in the late '70s. The box is so warn I can only tell it is a Wade and Butcher. The razor, however, is in good shape and I use it. The scales look ivory but I suspect they are bakelite since the family is a long line of cowboys and farmers they probably couldn't afford actual ivory. I have looked at many similar razors but none have the relief carving on them. The blade reads "medium size hollow ground" The tang just reads "wade and butcher Sheffield England. I cannot find a model number on the razor or the box. All I really know is the company quit production in 1959. Thank you in advance.

I think this is the same razor as yours. Wade & Butcher "Medium Size Hollow Ground" 5/8 - Shave Library

I suspect the scales are not original and I think you're right about them being bakelite.

Actually, I think the scales are molded celluloid.

Ya not ivory, doesn't even look like it,, they are likely not original, and it is an early 1900- till whenever they quit. Tc

The razor has a lot of hone wear, so it might not be the easiest razor to maintain for daily shaving. Possibly you could add another razor to the rotation and save your grandfather's razor for Sundays?

There were many 5/8" Sheffield razors marked with something like "Medium Hollow Ground" or "Medium Size Hollow Ground" -- you can see lots of them by doing a Google image search. If you like that style, you can get another one that's not as worn, either shave ready or you can send it to a master honer who works with razors especially. They come up on Ebay all the time.
