Thanked: 66antique store find - W&B w/ anchor
decided to test my luck at some local antique stores today and found this old W&B. shes looks well worn but ive not seen a GB anchor on a W&B before. anyone have a link or know some history re: this union? the W&B name is also not in its usual one-line configuration.

Nice find! The original scales appear to be about 1800 +-!0 years.

I have seen them before, but don't have any photos for reference nor knowledge of when/why W&B used the anchor.

There was a thread about the anchor....I think Birmingham was dismissed.
Seems the consensus was sailors liked it?
Here is one. No idea about Muntz & Co, S.B. OR the anchor!

Was the anchor discussion not stimulated by one of your razors, Phrank?
Seems Neil Miller was in on it.

Yes Tom, you are correct, the W&B Anchor, seen quite a few, they are not as rare as the GB Iron/Maltese Cross, but they're out there.
Here's mine....very old bird, should never have killed those original scales, but they were bug bitten to heck...think date was around 1810.

Thanked: 66thats it! mine looks very similar though the stamp is more faded. the pivot pins look original but the wedge pin is a definite replacement. the scales are pretty shot too.
thanks guys. i think this might just be my earliest razor.

Funny, another reason I love this forum.
Tom sent me a PM about this thread...posted, then said to myself, "This thread just decided what razor I'm using tonight!"
Awesome shave with this W&B Anchor, figure mine's a good 9/8, might be an iota wider, but man what a shave, nothing beats Sheffield steel for me, paired with DR Harris, "Windsor", one of my favourite soaps....sweet! :-)

Found the thread back when you got it!
Lotsa Zak, I get him and Neil mixed-up at times!

Great find Tom.
Val always returned to me scales that he replaced.
I'm going to go and look for them tomorrow, if I've got them, now that I know a bit more, I'm wondering if I can get the original scales back on this puppy....even if they're bug bitten on the inside, and badly warped like Val said, would be so cool to get it back to original.
