New photography rig
After a day of frustration and a bit of inspiration, I made this rig for photographing razors. It's a basic lightbox layout, with diffused lighting on sides and top, but the key was to raise the razor using three pieces of rod about 5 cm off the background.
Some results so far:

The diffuse lighting looks really nice, but I think you would benefit from a more uniform reflection off the blade. My ultra-lowtech lightbox can be seen in this old thread: https://straightrazorpalace.com/gene...ate-style.html

Thanked: 4826It seems pretty effective. I like the way it looks in the picture. The setup, tear down looks simple enough as well.

The biggest thing is that it makes removal of backgrounds a breeze, here set to a uniform grey background:

And it looks like you got the lighting better on that one. I'm still working on it. My lighting is still not great, but its fun to play. I do like the floating look.
It's just Sharpening, right?

I used photoshop to remove the background and make it uniform, so the physical lighting's not that perfect, it just makes the post-processing removal much easier. As far as blade lighting, the different shapes of each razor make it hard to standardize with a fixed lighting position. Now that I'm getting the hang of it I think the results are pretty good (I actually prefer some black in the blade to show off its reflectiveness):
And SRP's image management is fairly low-res, so here's a closeup:

It takes a long time to learn (I’m at about a 2% level) but once you grasp it it is amazingly powerful.
