what's the best way to preserve the label? How high of a grit do i need to go when lapping it?

Not sure on the label, but I lapped mine with 220 wet/dry till flat, then 400,600,1000 w/d paper.
Being mine is a barbers delight, I use one side with slurry, the other only water , being its burnished.Mike
