Tai Hei razor made in Japan

Just couldn't resist this one for the price.
As far as I can tell upon examination, it's NOS.
What little that I could find out about it told me it's mid-century and pretty rare nowadays.
Hopefully someone here knows a little more about these. I'd welcome any additional information.
    Took a beautiful edge with Shapton Glass 1k, 4k, 8k and 16k

泰平 made by Taihei Co.,Ltd. (Taiheishokai) / Tokyo.
They are great shavers made from Yasuki steel.

Thanks very much for the link Mark. That is some very interesting information there indeed. I took a chance with this one, but from it's stellar looks, I had a hunch it was going to be good. I'm sure glad that I didn't end up with a Japanese Gold Dollar

Some are lovely copies of western razors.
Some of the western-ground Japanese razors have Japanese characteristics

Ones like this have that personality, IMO.
    Nimble and fast. Great ergonomics.

    Shave like sports cars!
I have shaved with them....Need to get me a Kintaka one!

There's a few razor makers that made very similar razors.

    Jamie had a Guyana

Eikos also look like they were cut from the same cloth

    Yasuhira are almost identical too.

Im going out on a limb here but like the many Tanifuji brands they are all made in the same place.

I believe they are made with Yasuki Shirogami White Steel 2.
Most razors are made with that or Aogami Blue Steel 2.
I have also seen kamisori made with yellow steel but it's rare as the edge wont be that durable, yellow steel is mainly used for kitchen knives.

I just had the first shave with the Tai Hei.

The razor is really well balanced and handled beautifully.
The edge was awesome and gave a smooth, BBS and irritation free shave.

This one is a keeper and goes right near the top of the heap.

I've always seen these razors and wanted to get one.
They look nimble! Comparing it to a sports car seems accurate.

Are these flat on one side?

They have a similar profile to Kamisori, Mike, but are not.

Pete, glad you like your Taihai

Mike, you can get asymmetrical kamisori grinds but these ones are quarter hollow.

Old bump, I was just perusing and found this. Hopefully you're still enjoying it. It was one of two I bought. I kept the other. But I did sell you the one with the more beautiful scales and slightly better condition blade.
