I also put a duplicate address inside the box. Inside the box for content protection, I use "Sill Seal," about a i/4th inch thick high density flexible foam wrapped around each item with the ends of that tube taped shut. It recovers... unlike bubble wrap which gives one save per bubble that is bumped and destroyed.
I did have more than one battered box and letter come into my place. One of which appears to have had the blade winkled out by a carrier.

Flat Rate is cheap and there is no extra charge for the weight of the safety padding and heavily taped protection. Routing info is also a real plus.
Never use an envelope or cheap padding! JMO

sill seal foam gasket Its cheap too!

PS, if you ship liquids, wrap the cap where it joins\s the bottle with #33 electrical tape. It holds the cap and prevents leaks when the bottle is air shipped along the way.

Actually, there are better tapes than "electrical". Electrical tape, with it's elasticity, can actually begin to peel and "loosen" in transit, especially with the temperature fluctuations that result from air travel. You can purchase tape that has the same gripping qualities of electrical tape, but with less elasticity, thus no risk once applied.

Also, the best way to seal a sample bottle is to put a strip of tape over top of the bottle (from front to back, over the cap). Then you wrap the tape around the closure in a clockwise direction starting below the cap and finishing on the cap.

I prep samples of Dangerous Goods for transport to our US labs.

Here are a couple of pics of recent USPS handiwork...it's often their mechanical handling equipment that does this but still....

Fortunately my purchase wasn't lost or damaged, but pictures are always worth a 1,000 words for claims. Zak, with auction houses I've often received a rebate or etc. on fees when their poor packing was at play as well.

In general, insurance is an inexpensive investment for expensive items that are shipped by all the major players in that industry...stuff can happen.

Gorilla tape. You can get it in the same width as electrical tape, but once that stuff sets it’s murder to get off.

Oh what beautiful razors. I absolutely love the skrimshaw on the back.

My heart paused in panic hearing one was lost in the mail. I felt your pain. Hopefully something comes of it for you. That truly is heart breaking tho.

This thread is maddening! I have watched packages go in circles in central/eastern North Carolina, coming so close I could have met the truck in 2 hours drive. The crushing is a whole other pet peeve....what do they do...have designated stompers?!?

The missing razor drives me crazy, especially given the uniqueness of the others. Wow/damn is all I can say.

I submitted copious documentation to USPS and I’m waiting to hear back from them at this point.

Also, the very next package I got was also squished, it MUCH better packed. I’ve gotten many, many packages and never anything smooshed... me, two in a row. Amazing

I am baffled by sellers decisions to pack items with the care equivalent of a French Queen for her starving peasants. I once got a Nikon Labophot microscope, delivered in a single wall cardboard box, with a single cornflakes box crushed flat inside for padding. It arrived in 4 pieces, non of which were designed to be that way. I was able to secure a full refund from the seller as PayPal was suitably convinced by my photos of the packaging .
I hope you at least get some recompanse, from which ever party inolved. I know it doesnt make up for the loss of the item itself, especially if you had scored a great value at a discounted price. And having known some one in the P.O I can tell you with certainty, there is every chance in the world it had a little "help" falling out of the package. Once the opening occurs, once a piece sticks though.... its fair game apparently.
Good luck, and I'm glad you got at least SOME of your razors !

I dated a woman who worked at the P.O. she said the same thing. Things go missing. Hard to isolate interactions with packages to monitored areas. Etc.
Packages entering or leaving certain states like California go missing more often as it's more likely to have something of interest in it.
