Thread: Ponsbach 6 days set with replaceable blades

I bought this set local a while back. Been watching it for a little over a year and tried to buy once before but I think it was too expensive. At the end I ended up getting it for way below half price. 3 of the blades are chipped, one is used very well.. Box says C.V. Schöller. I know nothing about the maker. Anyone?

Oh man I like those sets, been wanting one for a long time.
Saw a set with tortoise, but didn't have the money to spend.
I'll look it up to see if I can come up with info later, perhaps one of our esteemed historians will give us some info on that set.

I think that’s PONSBACH, as in Carl Friedrich Ponsbach, a very early Swedish manufacturer in Stockholm who went to Sheffield in the late 1700’s to learn the cutlery trade.



There’s a little bit about him on this page for one of his apprentices.

I’d place the date for that at 1810-1820. The blades look to have been reground, but that’s a wonderful find. To date, the Ponsbach razor I have is the only one I’d ever seen!

I'd never imagine it to be swedish. Zak it's amazing that you can dig up history on almost everything.

Sometimes I imagine that he has secret connections with the underground historical societies..
Sometimes I imagine an Indiana Jones character clutching a rare straight razor catalog and yelling..
"This belongs in a museum!!!"

Looks like the blades may have been reground more hollow sometime back when.

In this particular case, it was pure, blind luck that I'd come across a Ponsbach razor before. (And bought it)

Sadly, my ability to turn up information drops off sharply as soon as I can't read about it in English. I need to learn French and Spanish and Swedish and Russian and German and some other ones. Also not just the modern versions, but also the archaic ones.
