"Carborundum hone"
Out visiting my folks in Oregon 2 weeks ago (and hitting antique stores) found this nice Carborundum hone (at least thats what the sticker said ). A natural combo it seems to have a unusually thick BBW side. I t measures 1 1/4 thick with the coti part about 1/4 to 3/8 thick. There's a odd saw cut in the BBW about 3/8 deep like someone tried to cut some of it off with a handsaw. Seems pretty flat so i might soften the edges and give it a few strokes as is. I'm not a coti user (this is my second wild caught one) and i'm not one who likes messing with hones so i'll see how it goes. Who knows maybe it will be a keeper. ( Oh yeah, snagged it for $8.00!)

Really cool. Well done! Just goes to show that you've got to look through those boxes.

Thanked: 3215Nice find, some of the smaller stones were the finer ones cut small for honing razors “Barbers Hone”.
The cut can be filled with epoxy or baking soda and CA glue or should be fine left alone.
Should clean up fine with a Diamond plate or 220 wet and dry.

Nice find.
I would vote for leaving the odd saw cut alone.
It will be long wore out and so will you by the time it reached that point!Last edited by 32t; 05-21-2019 at 03:26 AM. Reason: grammer

Thanked: 292They say you cannot believe everything you read on the Internet; I guess the same warning applies to what you read on boxes of shaving gear. Very nice find at an awesome price.
