Gillette Aristocrat DE
So I was browsing around Bryson City for gifts for my wife; she's the one who rented the beautiful mountain cabin I'm staying in until my in-laws leave next Saturday (trust me, everybody is happier-wish I'd though of this 25 years ago!). Anyway, I found this beautiful Gillette Aristocrat in great condition in the box with blade-storage for $32. I'm not a Gillette collector or aficionado, but think it will make a nice companion to my SuperSpeed and FatBoy. The plating is mostly intact, with some minor wear around the doors (which function smoothly with no slop).
It also came with a pristine vintage Gillette blade, which I'll use on my 1st shave with it (again, not a collector-I bought it to USE).
Don't worry, I'm not stupid-the wife also got her gifts. Now do I go back down there and get the gorgeous Griswold cast iron pan she has?The lady there also has a nice wooden Barbicide sterilizing cabinet, which I think I'm going to resist. There are many roads to sharp.

When I was a full-time DE shaver, among the twist-open Gillettes, the Aristocrat was my favorite. A nice mix of craftsmanship and utility, working man luxury. They are middle-mild shavers; stick in a Feather blade and with good technique, they're about as good as DE shaving gets. I inherited my favorite one from my uncle's estate, my aunt saved it for me because she knew I was into wet shaving and would appreciate it.
I used to be a fanatic for the British versions of the Aristocrats, too. Precision machinery. A different time, different men.

I have that exact razor with the same case. My father bought it when he returned from WW2. It's the razor I learned to shave with. Enjoy.

Thanked: 3215I too have the same razor. I like the weight. A Nice shaver.
The British version had nicer more unique knurling, and Silver plated is the way to go for a user, though the Gold Plate looks very nice.
A rinse with rubbing alcohol and scrub with a cut down boar paint brush will make the gold pop, without removing or damaging the thin gold
Smoking deal.

The Aristocrat was the reason I got into wet shaving in the first place.
When I was a kid I spent a lot of my time over at my grandparents' house. My grandfather had one of these aristocrats (gold colored adjustable), and I was always fascinated by it. A few years back I was feeling nostalgic and decided to get myself a DE razor in honor of grandpa, and that started the whole hobby for me.
One of these days I'll go ahead and buy one of these for myself.
