Just got these near mint pair of Kropp razors with Ivory scales in original ‘Russian leather ‘ case for a price I would have happily paid for the case alone. These are Sheffield made, Hamburg ground examples, so pre 1st World War.From the advertisements of the period this set cost 21 shillings in 1900...about $100 today according to Currency converter: 1270รข€“2017

Kropp razors are fairly common here in the UK, but great shavers. A few points that may be useful: many posts on this site refer to Kropp’s wholesalers, Osborne Garrett & Co. as being based on Dean Street, Bateman Street and ‘Firth’ Street...the latter should be ‘Frith Street’...all three are streets within a minute’s walk of each other in London’s Soho, long the Centre of prostitution. The case was originally green (the colour is preserved on the underside). The scales are much thicker than the other ivory scales razors I own, but still thinner than faux ivory... I’ve examined closely and convinced they are ivory due to the way the grain behaves in angled light and saw marks visible on the inside of the scales under magnification.

    Nice.

I like the "Never requires grinding" in the advertisement.

A great find, enjoy. The scales appear to be pinned without washer and that would be another indicator that the scales could be ivory.

Both had a shaveable edge already, but not quite good enough, so I honed today. First shave in the morning.

I have one of these - a pre WWI model that is stamped "Made in England - Ground in Hamburg". A great shaver in ivory with a very thin lead wedge. It measures a generous 5/8 - you could call it an 11/16
