Picked up these two in the wild the other day. It even has instruction for on how to use the autostrop. Does anyone know if the strop savable and if so how?

Lots of thread about saving old strops. A current one here.

Being thin I would think would make it less forgiving.

My thinking is if it is thin and IF IT IS NOT CRACKED, a thin strop will actually be easier to restore. Valet Autostrops are around 4oz leather. Neats foot oil is quickly absorbed. That's your best bet for making that one supple again. Rub it in from both sides. Don't worry about getting too much. Just rub it in and keep rubbing it. after a few weeks you can pull any excess oil out by packing it in clay-type kitty litter or garage oil absorbent. Then clean it with saddle soap and a soft toothbrush, wipe with old tshirt and hand rub again with only a couple drops of oil in the palm of your hand. You can also try adding a very small amount of lanolin, maybe rubbing your hand on a lump of beeswax before hand rubbing the strop.

The hand rubbing is more important than the oil or other dressing used.

If you just can't bring it back to life, just get some 3oz or 4oz calf leather or deerskin and make your own strop.
