Thanked: 3225Puma green strop paste
Got two tubes of green Puma strop paste in the mail today. I assume it is crox. Pasted up my cleaned felt hanging strop and had at it. Felt good on the leather afterward so tomorrows shave will tell the rest of the story.
I ordered and paid for it from a Canadian site and got a confirmation right away. Next day got an email saying their inventory in stock quote was wrong and they had none. OTH they would send me the order free of cost being it was their mistake when they got some in. I only mention this as I find that level of service remarkable in today's world and they deserve full credit for it. I got it from https://pumaknives.ca/ if any Canucks are looking for that type of thing.

Great service indeed! I ordered a box of paste from them several years ago. Should last me a lifetime.

Its so nice to find decent service. I dont mind paying a little extra when the service is good. Congrats on finding a one in a thousand shop that cares.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 292Chromium oxide is a good abraisive for pasted strops. However, the best grades of CrOx are typically around 0.5 micron. That may be good enough for your requirements. If you like your edges even sharper and smoother, you will have to go to other types of abrasives such as diamond or Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN). Some folks like diamond; I like CBN. Follwing my CrOX strop, I use 0.5, 0.25 and 0.1 micron CBN pastes and sprays. When I first tried 0.1 micron CBN, I was surprised at the improvement it made in the edge. I did not think it would make much difference compared to 0.25 micron, but my face appreciated the extra step.

Not sure if the paste as pictured is the same as the old block and tube pastes from Solingen, but of the latter, the green paste is considered the coarsest. The ratings, which are relative as they sink into the support being used go something like this: green, 6 microns; red 2-4 microns; and black, 0.5-1 microns. For touch-ups to a daily shaving edge, I like to use the black paste. After honing off a coticule or other low-range "finisher," the red paste. The green paste tube is used in lieu of a mid-range hone, and the Puma block paste is alleged to be analogous to the green tube paste.
