    Default Big GB anchor razor

    Hi gents,

some weeks ago I was looking at our local second hand selling website and came across a lot of straight razors and a coticule.
The one razor that caught my eye was a big and heavy razor. I emailed the guy and got it for an absolute steal.

    Razor is 10/8.
As the scales that were on the razor are totally shot. I will make new ones out of black horn with bullseye washers.
In the second picture, the upper scale model is one that I have laying around from another GB anchor razor and the other scales are the ones that were on this blade. Still doubting what model I will make.

I know, but these replacements are quite rare.

Why not repair the original scales, I've saved many in worse condition. If it doesn't work out for ya, then make the new scales.

With all the problems to sort with cleats, donor horn, shaping and epoxy it feels like it would take no less time just cutting fresh duplicates.. Mind you, that's just what we see superficially in photos..

The scales that were on this blade doesn't fit the blade correctly. It was rescaled in the past and pinned with a nail.
And I don't have a full set of scales that match the blade (only the one in the second picture).

It’s nice to score a rare blade in decent condition at a great price.
Congratulations on a very successful hunt.

Nice find. I too would try to repair the original scales but if they don't fit right then that settles that. Pity because I always like to have old scales on an old razor because no matter how much restoration you do the blade will never look like brand new but newly cut scales will.

Yeah, they do not fit at all. And finding those right GB scales will be though....
