    Default New Japanese Straight Razor

I managed to pick one of these up. It has a Tosuke handle, but is not a Tosuke. It's got a 50mm blade and is quite hefty. I've lined it up against my first Japanese SR, a vintage one courtesy of Floppyshoes, who put those cool cocobolo scales on it.

Although the profiles of both razors are very similar, the new one looks like a 6/8 to the older one's 4/8! However, the blade itself is only a few mm longer. You can see that the transition between the hard steel and the softer steel of the spine and handle is fairly prominent. I guess some don't like this, but I take it as an indication of the handicrafted nature of these razors.

Anyway, the proof of the pudding is in the shaving, or some mixed metaphor like that, and that will be happening tomorrow morning, and on two days of growth, since I was up and out of the house today with no time to shave. Another nice feature of using a straight razor: yesterday morning's BBS didn't look a bit stubbly until very late today!

    best, Dan

Have fun! Those things sure are gorgeous! Supposedly a Feather Guard fits over a 45mm Tosuke blade, perhaps a 50mm as well... that's my next move

I'm looking to get one of these buggers soon myself, heck I already bought a natural stone for it
