Thanked: 4Fantastic antique store find
I had a little extra time this afternoon, and happened upon an antique store I'd never stopped at before. I went in and looked around for a while, before finally asking the clerk if they had any straight razors...she goes into the back of one of the cases and comes up with a mug full. I look through them, finding nothing particularly interesting...I thank the lady and I'm halfway out the door before I hear her say "Wait, theres a couple more here..."
She had three boxes in her hands when I turned around, and I immediately took note of the one below:
I look closer:
Now I'm thinking, maybe this is something...I pick up the box and immediately notice the heft of it...good sign...I open it and pull out the razor inside...
Now I'm excited...please don't let it be chipped or cracked, I'm thinking to myself...
This bad boy is just a hair under 9/8, no chips, cracks or rust, very little hone wear...original horn scales in decent condition...here it is next to a 5/8 wapi for reference...

Oh, and the grind...
I've been wanting one of these badly for a while...to the point where I was ready to set a ridiculous snipe on the next one I saw on ebay...VERY glad I found this first

Thanked: 4Chris - Nice!!! They do look pretty much identical...this was EXACTLY what I've been looking for too, 8/8 or larger W&B wedge with a barber's notch...Congrats to you bro And this is about to get a lil spooky...my name is Chris too
Criticalped - I paid $50...I probably could have knocked it down a little, but I was too stoked about finding it to care too much. Plus it was an antique store with several vendors, the lady that was there was not the vendor that had this particular item, and I didn't want to put her on the spot. I was ready to pay several times that much if I saw one pop up on ebay, so to me it was an awesome dealLast edited by Mejnoon; 04-26-2008 at 05:04 AM.

Thanked: 4I wanted to keep it as original as possible, including original pins, but this morning I opened it up and the pivot pin popped. Never seen that happen before. So now I'm thinking, maybe I'll take advantage of the opportunity to clean the blade up really well without the scales on, and either re-pin the original scales or see if someone can make me new horn scales that match the originals (the originals are not perfect, they have a couple small chips).
I think I'm gonna post about it in the resto forum, I need some advice...
