Erik Antonberg 7 Day Set
My 7 day set from ebay arrived today. I had wanted to get one since I started shaving with a straight and saw them and had drooled over the aspect of an erik antonberg 7 day set thinking they didn't exist at all. I saw one on ebay and ... sniped.. didn't want to pay too much, glad I got the set.
The set was posted as having bakelite scales, but after arriving them and upon inspection the scales definately are not bakelite. They have texture to them and some depth, but not as much so as the other erik antonberg that I have with ivory scales though Tuesday does show very similar depth and texturing. They don't look very much like the bone on my Founder's Razor from Classic Shaving and the scales look much more similar to my 4/8 antonberg with ivory scales so my guess is them being ivory but may possibly be bone, I'm not exactly a master at identifying scales though.
They're all 11/16 square points with days of the week stamped on the spines. I think they may have been originally 6/8 and have been honed back a bit as they're closer to 6/8 than 11/16. It looks as though they were cleaned prior to being posted on ebay as they show some signs of scratches near the spine primarily, but the rest of the razor looks good. There are some spots of patina and rust on them, but mostly cleaned so my guess is maybe they were cleaned and then stored for some time before being sold on ebay. My plan is to send them off, hopefully to Glen here on SRP to have them further cleaned and honed as they look to need to be cleaned on the inside of the scales and near the pivot and I'm sure he's much more able to clean such areas with the delicate scales than I would be, hopefully I can work something out there.
Saturday is the only one that is in fairly poor shape having a chip near the tip of the razor and a crack all of the way through by the pivot pin(see photo). When I cleaned them up with barbicide and the scales with some nail polish remover I noticed that the scales are cracked all of the way through there, only on Sat. If treated properly I think the scales can still be used, I'm pretty light on razors on the strop and so I should be able to still get use out of Saturday with care, Sat is also loose due to the crack. All of the other days are tight or pretty tight some are a little loose but not enough, I don't think, to cause problems. One other has a small crack near the pivot pin, its not all of the way through though.
All are stamped Erik Anton Berg, Eskilstuna, Garanti Sweden with the fish. Also days of the week on the spines
Enjoy the pics I tried taking some of the razor with the most pretty graining on the scales - Tuesday - so maybe someone could help with ID'g as bone or ivory. It's really hard to photograph the texture though and it was hardly captured in the picture.Last edited by bevansmw; 06-30-2008 at 10:42 PM. Reason: Re-measured size

I would love to have a set to use daily.
How did you find such a set? were you patient for a long time? How did you know you were getting good razors?

I just happened across them on ebay and couldn't help it. Dumb luck? The photos on ebay were pretty good, but I think the seller was dead wrong on scale material and pretty glad for it as if she had posted them as being either bone or ivory I think the price could've been quite higher than the amount I paid.
