I found this 9/8 razor... My search is over...
So I was at a huge flea market Tuesday. One of the biggest in the country I think, Tuesday was the opening day. Dealers come from all over the country. Anyway, I found a lot of razors, and they are all trumped by this. It's kind of a shame because the other razors I found are also pretty amazing.
But THIS! This is a 9/8 Joseph Elliott. It's basically a wedge. Slight hollow I guess. Etching on the face says Diamond Edge Razor and on the tang, Jospeh Elliott, Best Silver Steel. It came in this condition, has to be near mint, only worn from being however old it is. Looks like the spine and tang were originally polished and the blade was ground to a satin finish. Looks much better in person really. It had scales on, but I have plans for it, so obviously, they came off (just plain black horn I think anyway). The last pics are of the razor next to my 8/8 W&B wedge and next to the 8/8 and next to a 5/8 W&B. It dwarfs the 8/8. I'm still stunned at finding this thing. Tuesday it was one of the last razors I found and afterwards, I think I had kind of thrown in the towel for the day. What more was there to look for?
P.S.- I forgot to mention- $20!!!!!!!!!!Last edited by Philadelph; 07-11-2008 at 03:30 AM.

Just beautiful. I can't wait to see it in scales. I'm also very glad to see that original satin finish. I have a similar Joseph Elliot shoulderless that came in its original coffin. Not even close to as wide a blade as yours. The one I have is probably a 6/8ths but.....somewhat coarse satin finish. I almost thought someone had modified it along the way. Now I know it's original like yours. Very cool.
