    Default KAI disposable straight razor

    A pack of 5 goes for 100yen.

HHT like a champ, but I don't know if I'd ever actually use one to shave my face.

The cutting edge is ~50mm long, and it's 12mm wide (4/8 according to straight razor convention). Folded steel or aluminum that clamps the blade (hey, it's a frameback!) Very lightweight. I think I'd have to hold it by the flat part of the handle, as it is too narrow to hold it by the top and bottom of the "tang" as you would a normal straight.

    Anyhow, interesting score.

    Okay, ........Silly question:

Did you acquire this to use? or, for your collection of unusual....things? or, perhaps curiosity?

Forgive me for asking. I suffer from OCD, and I find myself buying things that when they arrive, I ask myself, "what did I buy this for?"

    * Maybe you didn't buy it, and got it as a gift, or whatever........

    Regards,

    Steve

I'm travelling on business in Japan. While in the 100yen store (i.e.-the dollar store stateside...) buying some skin conditioner and aftershave lotion I saw a pack of these for....wait for it.....100yen!

About 20 cents apiece, how could I say "no"?

I gave one a quick go to clean up the back of my neck. Sharp little buggers, that's for sure.

However, I doubt I'd ever choose to use one for a real shave. They lack any sort of character or "soul". And you can't even hold them like a normal straight.

That's odd. I find myself buying things that when they arrive my wife asks me "what did you buy that for!?"

Well... I'd give it a go and try to shave with it. It's an unusual thing, that's true and maybe a nice piece for a colection of oddities. But still, I'd try one out just to see how it works.

I've used the ones that look similar to a DE, and they are extremely harsh. The burn lasts and lasts, and you don't get BBS either.

BTW you should check out eBay some time, there has been a guy tring to sell rusted ones individually starting at $7.

Speaking of which, here is one right now, starting at $5.

Yeah, these are destined for shaving the back of the neck duty only. They don't "glide" very well, and are not worth risking a cut due to lack of inertia for the sake of trying something different.

That is a "vintage" KAI straight the guy is selling, so it must be woth more!
