    Default Escher in disguise

Just received this from the mailman: (613) uralter Rasiermesser Wasserstein, August Stukenbr - eBay (item 350100405256 end time Sep-27-08 07:58:00 PDT)

Center picture on the box is identical to the picture on Escher hones including decorated frame around it.
Where it would read Escher & Co. it reads August Stukenbrok. And underneath it reads: Fahrradfabrik Einbeck.

The hone had hardly been used, I polished it with 440 grit sandpaper and got a very smooth gray blue surface!

Has anyone ever seen a similar hone?

Well, it sucks for a bicycle. Probably the worst bicycle I've ever seen.

I know it's an existential hone! I doesn't matter what it is - it makes no difference

I have been doing some reseach into Stukenbrok Fahrradfabrik. Apparently they started making bicycle but later on they were one of the 1st mail order companies that collapsed during the economic crisis of the 30s.

Their catalogues are still being reprinted as they were so beautiful.

So I reckon I am having a rebranded Escher.

Looks like it to me Kees. It is at least a vintage Thuringian, which I tend to class as Escher-esque anyway. But if the box fits, and the label matches, I think you are right.

    Very nice score.

I'm glad someone here got that hone, I was watching it like a hawk... too chicken to pull the trigger though.
