    Yes, it's fossilized, has spent thousands of years in the swamps giving it this dark color.

    Mummified might be more accurate/ it's not a fossil as in petrified wood. But it is very neat-o material.

    The handle is superb looking. I would use a little less silver and more wood, but i like this one as well or better than any I have seen.
