I got these of Ebay, wow-wow

I think and do hope that they are Coticule, but... Im not sure about the third one .....



Anyone with a suggestion please come forward..

Those look great. The first does look like a coticule and maybe the second. The last one is interesting and whatever it is it has been well used. Probably quite a good stone.

Yes, the one closest in the picture is a coticule bonded to a belgian blue stone rather than slate. The second is clearly a natural combo coticule. You're right on know knowing what the third one is.

Those should be good stones for you. Enjoy.

You outbid me on those but I didnt want to spend much, Im glad they went to someone on here, hope they turn out to be nice stones

I decided not to bid when she wouldn't send me better photo's! Have you got them yet? How do they look in reality? Good i hope!

That third stone has a shape similar to one I remember my grandfather using to sharpen a scythe blade.

Outbid me as well. Though didn't think it would go as high as it did. You'll have to let us know what they are like an if they are coticules.

Yes I got the stones the other day, now they are lapped and looking gooooood :-)

Hmm well they are smaller than I expected But still they do hone well..

My camera is on holly-day i Spain with my girlfriend, so you'll have to wait for the pictures...

Btw. the third stone is crap...... And I dunno what kind it is, might be useful cut as a slurry .....

Well as promised here are pictures of the stones.

The long one is a natural that measures 14.7 x 3.4 cm.
The short but wide one measures 13.0 x 4.0 cm.

Both are very nice stones to work with, the softer one is the short stone. Still Im to sell one of them but have not decided witch one...

FYI. the long stone is the one at the right, - except at the two close up's at the bottom.

Very interesting. That bonded cotticule does look like slate vs. BBW. You should contact Rob Celis at the mine and ask him when slate was first used as a substrate for the coticule. By the deteriorated bond typical of vintage bonded coticules, I would (and did) only believe the substrate could have been BBW and nothing else. I think it's interesting to see a coticule that appears to be of older production bonded to slate.

Keep the natural and sell the bonded coticule. Soft coticules are great for razors as well.
