My wonderful 8x2 coticule
Hey all,
So last month I ordered an 8x2 coticule from Howard at ThePerfectEdge, and requested the hardest he had, as I wished to use it solely for finishing razors. It works spectacularly, and have honed a few razors off of it so far, and have had happy shaves. So I've spent longer than I'd like to confess just looking at my stone, and marvelling at its beauty.....
So I figured I'd share it with all of you! Here it is. It had a really nice "grain" to it, and the colour and pattern is very uniform. It's a great size and I LOVE IT!
I hope you can see the pattern of the surface in the first pic, and the second picture is just to get an idea of scale. The razor in the picture is my favourite, a Boker King Cutter (nothing fancy but shaves like a dream).
Hope you like the pictures!
Dave
P.S. Howard is awesome to deal with, he offered very fast service and was very helpful. Thanks again!

Beautiful Coticule, Dave. The surface almost looks like a figuring. 3D. Very cool. That's an heirloom that will last many generations of straight razor shavers. Pass the skill on down!

Thanks guys, and I do indeed intend to hold on to it to pass down!
dgtirl1971, although the grit of the coticule is said to be about 8000, it performs differently than a norton 8000. Due to the shape of the garnets in the surface it creates a smoother edge, which some say (when used with only water on the stone) is comparable to a 10000-12000 stone. If you're interested there are a TON of threads/posts about coticules in the forums here, just do a search and you'll see...
